Overview of two events this past week….

Thank you to all those who attended the seedsitters meeting organized by David Suzuki Foundation on Sunday January 28th and the talk. I had the pleasure of meeting USS members Catherine, Maia (and Olivier), and Karanne. Danielle also signed up to join our group. Welcome!

Olivier and Maia
Maia not only planted the seeds right away, but also wrote me such a lovely message!!!

This was also a great opportunity to hand out our new postcards which have contact information to Project Swallowtail, our sign-up form as well as my winter-sowing video.

This fantastic event was followed a few days later with a public talk at the Don Mills library branch. A HUGE thank you for the fantastic space and warm reception by library staff. There were printed biodiversity booklets and handouts that were generously provided by Toronto Parks & Forestry. 22 people attended this talk including our group members Mary, Sanam, Sarah and Shannon. They were able to pick up their supplies, and Mina and I handed out free pots, soil, chicken wire and seeds to this amazingly enthusiastic crowd. Several seemed interested in our group so we’ll see how many sign up!

I also held a lucky draw for the last two gift memberships I had for the North American Native Plant Society and I’m delighted that Sarah and Sheri were the lucky winners! Congrats!

So what now?

I will continue distributing the seed packs and reaching out to past members to see if they want to continue. Ideally we would like to have at least two members growing each variety to ensure a good stock for next year. If you are interested in joining our group, now is the time!

I will continue to distribute seeds until the third week of February. I plan to give away the remainder of the seed packs at a public event at Evergreen Brickworks on March 2nd. As it stands, here is what we are growing together:

Happy Growing and see you soon!
