In the summer of 2021, with the help of two amazing teachers, Ms. Osborne and Ms. Stermasi, I led a group of students from Leaside’s eco-club in preparing and planting a native plant garden in the roundabout directly in front of the school. The garden now has 38 varieties of plants, mostly generously donated by Project Swallowtail.
Led by their dynamic teachers, several members of Leaside High School’s Eco-Club have formed a local Project Swallowtail seed-sitting group and received special kits to grow new plant varieties to add to their roundabout garden and maybe even create new ones on school property.
I created the handout to the left to tell students about the seed-sitting kits they were getting and the next steps they should take.
