Time to start stretching…

About a week ago, I decided to begin warming up my seedlings to help them get a jump on spring.  Last year I had great success from creating a “greenhouse” effect for my seedsitting shelf by stapling plastic onto the frame, while creating two overlapping plastic flaps in the front.

Around the same time I set up my new walk-in greenhouse which immediately took a beating from the recent windstorms. With great advice from Luna and Pete, I have managed to secure down the sides of the greenhouse for now ( more reinforcements to follow!!! ) and cruised through subsequent wind storms.

If you are wondering which greenhouse I have it’s the  “Outsunny 8′ x 6′ Portable Pop Up Greenhouse Walk-in Hot House with Roll-up Door & 2 Windows Outdoor for Plants Garden Foldable, Green” SKU:”845-414″. The whole thing came in a pouch and the frame does not require assembly, though you need multiple people to help stretch it out.

So after a mere week of greenhouse living, over the past few days I have seen several pots begin to sprout.

What can you do now?

Two things you can do to help your seedling grow faster are:

  1. Warm them up. This can be by moving them to a sunnier location, covering them with a dome to simulate a greenhouse.
  2. Make sure they don’t dry out! I am now watering my pots every 2 days. The warmer temperatures as well as the wind really dry out the soil quickly so keep watch over the pots to make sure they don’t dry out

And this last thing is not about the plants but YOU!!! Start stretching my friends! The sitting part of our project is over and this is the point where we switch into seed-running mode!

If you have pictures of your seedlings, please email them to me so I can share them with the rest of our group.
